Twente, Fenerbahce set for qualification

Dutch team Twente were pushed all the way by hard-working Sheriff Tiraspol for a 1-0 win. On loan Chelsea winger Miroslav Stoch grabbed an early lead for the home side. In the other group match, Fenerbahce improved their position and are now on the verge of qualification after a 3-1 win over Romania's Steaua Bucharest.

Amsterdam side Ajax traveled to Croatia needing a win to guarantee their place in the Round of 32, and duly delivered thanks to goals from Marko Pantelic and Demy de Zeeuw.

Anderlecht's win over Timisoara was hard-fought but deserved, as is their passage to the knockout stage thanks to the 2-1 win.

Everton lose at home, Villarreal beat Lazio
Everton were outclassed for the second time by Benfica, the Portuguese winning 0-2 with strikes from Javier Saviola to leave the Portuguese three points clear at the top of Group I.

French veteran Robert Pires was twice on target for Villarreal in Group G group in a 4-1 home romp over Lazio.

Hamburg mar Celtic's qualification hopes
Celtic's hopes of advancing hang by a thread after they could only manage a goalless draw in Hamburg, to whom they had lost at home in Group C.

The Germans lie second in the group on seven points with Israeli outfit Hapoel Tel Aviv in front after moving onto nine points following a 3-0 romp at Rapid Vienna.
