The wedding was a low-key affair as the guest list included only close relatives, family members and colleagues of the Olympic and World Championship bronze-medallist. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is a friend of the boxer and an avid boxing fan himself, marked his presence at the wedding ceremony.
He was at the venue for about ten minutes and wished the newly-wed couple. Senior BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain and the former Union Minister Captain Satish Sharma were also present on the occasion.
The newly-wed couple will be going to Vijender's native village in Kaluwas in Bhiwani, where a lavish reception has been planned.
Later, they might also throw another party in Delhi.
The 25-year-old pugilist, who returned to the country a couple of days back after winning a bronze in the Arafura Games, had reportedly been dating the girl for the past four years.
Archana hails from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh and works with the British High Commission in the Capital. After marriage, Vijender has a busy schedule ahead as he gets ready for the Olympic qualifiers, starting with the World Championships in September.
The strapping six-footer jumped a division to light heavyweight 81kg category in the Arafura Games and would be back in the middleweight 75kg division for the coming events
