Vuvuzelas should be banned: Bhutia

Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia said the droning noise made by vuvuzelas is proving to be an irritation for the teams in the ongoing World Cup football and the musical instrument should be banned.

The bee-swarm sound of countless vuvuzelas at South African grounds has raised a controversy with the organisers considering banning the instrument in the stadia.

"It is causing too much of an irritation. It has to be banned immediately. This kind of noise does not help football," Bhutia said on the sidelines of a function here.

Asked about the jabulani balls being used in the World Cup, he said: "This ball is too fast. Players are having problems holding the ball."

Asked to comment on new East Bengal coach Manuel Gomes, Bhutia said: "Any coach is good. But he must be given time to deliver."

He regretted that coaches were never given sufficient time by Indian clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

"Coaches like Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have the last word in selecting their teams. But in India the club officials make the teams. And the coaches do not have much freedom," he said at a programme where the 16 under-15 finalists of the "Tata Tea Jaago Re' Arsenal Soccer Stars Round 3 were feted. The 16 have been shortlisted to participate at the 20th Arsenal International Soccer festival in UK in August.
