Fresh from her semifinal spot at the All England championships and a magnificent run at the Uber Cup qualifiers where she almost single-handedly took India to the finals, Saina Nehwal raised hopes for another memorable performance in the Badminton Asia Championships beginning here today.
"I gave myself a birthday present at the All England and the Uber Cup qualifying in Thailand gave me real satisfaction as I did my bit to ensure we reach the finals. But here, I will have to take each match as it comes. The standard is high and my very first opponent from Thailand is very good. So let's see what happens," she told MiD DAY.
When reminded that she is the top seed, Saina said: "Yes, but it (top billing) also brings pressures. I am confident of good home support though. I have my own way of dealing with such situations. I have trained hard and my coach (P Gopichand) is happy with the way I was playing at the camp in Hyderabad."
