Wimbledon: Paes-Hingis enter mixed doubles semi-finals, Sania-Bruno crash out

London: India's Leander Paes entered the semifinals of the mixed doubles event even as Sania Mirza crashed out in the quarterfinals at the Wimbledon, here today.

While seventh seeded Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis took little time to brush aside the challenge of
unseeded Polish-Russian combination of Marcin Matkowski and Elina Vesnina 6-2 6-1 in just 44 minutes, second seeds Sania and Bruno Soares of Brazil were stunned 6-3 6-7(8) 7-9 by fifth seeds Alexander Peya of Austria and Timea Babos of Hungary in two hours and 21 minutes.

It was a thorough professional performance from seventh seeded Paes and Hingis, who needed just 44 minutes to drub Polish-Russian third seeds Marcin Matkowski and Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-1 on Court 1.

Paes and Hingis won all four breakpoint opportunities that were made available to them and also clinched 49 of the 76 points played in the match, showing the one-sidedness of the quarterfinal contest.

Next up, they will take on formidable American top seeds Mike Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands for a place in yet another final.

Much earlier, Indo-Vietnamese eighth seeds Sumit Nagal and Nam Hoang Ly defeated local pair Jonathan Gray and Ewan Moore 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes to progress to the boys' doubles quarterfinals. They will next take on Japanese combine of Jumpei Yamasaki and Yusuke Takahashi.

Later in the first round of girls' doubles, Colombian-Indonesian pair of Maria Fernanda Herazo Gonzalez and Deria Nur Haliza defeated Indo-Japanese combine of Pranjala Yadlapalli and Chihiro Muramatsu 6-3, 6-2 in just over an hour on Court 14.
