Winter Olympics: Bobsleigh suspended

Four-man bobsleigh training was suspended yesterday as more changes were made to the notorious Olympic Games Whistler Sliding Track which claimed the life of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili.

International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (FIBT) official Don Krone said drivers had been having problems coming out of turn 11 and going into turn 12 and that the track would be modified to help safety after a number of crashes.

"The FIBT track commission, in conjunction with VANOC (Games organisers) track crew, and with advice from a number of team captains, are working on the shape of turn 11 to make it easier for drivers to get high enough on 11 to turn 12 so that they can successfully make it through turn 13," said Krone adding that several teams and officials had voiced their concerns. Meanwhile, US men's coach Brian Shimer said: "It will be fine as long as everyone is aware and knows the issues. It's still going to be the toughest track in the world."
