India's reigning junior world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen (54kg) won the silver medal at the AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships, held in Albena, Bulgaria yesterday.
The 17-year-old, who defeated Viktoriya Virt of Ukraine in the semi-final, fell to China’s Yunzi Yuan in the final.
The Andhra Pradesh boxer won the flyweight division gold medal at the inaugural edition of the AIBA Women’s junior World Championship but currently contests in the bantamweight division after moving into the youth category this year.
India also won two bronze medals at the event, thanksu00a0to Simranjit Kaur (60kg) and Asha Roka (48kg).
