Asian Games 2023: On Sunday, India enjoyed quite a successful day with 15 medals, 9 came in athletics alone

India's long-distance runner Avinash Sable continued his impressive run, securing a silver medal in men's 5000m at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Indian produced an effort of 13:21.09 to finish second in a spectacular race. Bahrain's Birhanu Yemataw Balew came up with a Games record effort of 13:17:40 to win the gold, while his compatriot Dawit Fikadu Admasu bagged the bronze with a season best of 13:25:63.
Sable thus added another medal to his 3000m steeplechase gold which he had claimed last week. Gulveer Singh missed out on a medal, finishing fourth, despite a personal best effort of 13:29:93.
In other results of the day, Harmilan Bains produced a fine run to clinch a silver in the women's 800m race, her second medal in this Asian Games here on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old from Punjab clocked an impressive timing of 2:03.75 to bag the silver in a highly competitive race.
The gold went to Sri Lanka's Tharushi Dissanayaka, who touched the tape at a time of 2:03.20. The bronze went to China's Chunyu Wang, who finished with a timing of 2.03:90.

Bains had earlier won a silver in the women's 1500m race in this edition of the Games.
Another Indian runner in the 800m, Chanda finished at the seventh place with a timing of 2:05.69.
Meanwhile, much to Indian fans' delight, Parul Chaudhary and Priti secured silver and bronze medal respectively in the women's 3000m steeplechase on Monday.
Parul clocked 9:27.63 sec to claim the silver medal ahead of compatriot Priti, who made a strong finish to clinch the bronze with a personal best time of 9:43.32 sec.In August this year at the World Championships held in Budapest, Parul registered a national record in 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:15.31 sec, and in the process qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
