Seven of the best horses from the crop of 2009 will face the starter for the fifth and final Classic, the grade 1, Signature Premium Indian St Leger, slated as the feature event of Sunday's nine race card. The grueling test will decide who among them has both class and staying power that can last over 2,800 meters.
Local pride An Acquired Taste, Hyderabad hero Tintinnabuylation and Bangalore challenger Wind Stream are expected to be concerned at the judge's end.
Though An Acquired Taste is in absolutely incredible form at present, I feel his ability to stay the distance is a little suspect, because his show in the Bangalore St Leger over the same trip was quite ordinary.
Of course, the going on that occasion may not have suited him too well, but since both Tintinnabulation & Wind Stream have given proof that they can stay till the cows come home, I nominate the last-named, who is showing marked improvement with each successive run after regaining his form, to win the prestigious event. Wind Stream is trained by Irfan Ghatala and will be ridden by Suraj Narredu.
First race at 1.00 pm.
