At multi-disciplinary events like the Olympics and Asian Games, the Opening Ceremony tickets are most sought after. In fact, the tickets are at such a premium that they even fall short for the touring international media. In this scenario, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Organising Committee’s call to distribute free tickets to the poor section of their society is viewed as a kind gesture.

As per a Paris Media Centre (PMC) report, “Thousands of people will have the chance to attend the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony on July 26 with Paris giving away 55,000 free tickets. These tickets are aimed primarily at families from disadvantaged neighbourhoods— those with the lowest family quotient, whose children don't usually go on holiday and who are enrolled in summer leisure centres. These tickets are also a way of thanking Parisians who are actively involved in the community, such as young people doing their community service, members of the sports movement, employees of the City of Paris, among others.”

Additionally, the organisers have ensured a fair and transparent method to distribute these precious tickets which permit every guest to bring along three companions too. “All the lucky winners will be notified by email and will be able to choose three companions. Those who respond will receive access codes to connect to the Paris 2024 platform. Three waves of invitations will be sent out between June and July to avoid any cancellations,” added the PMC report.
