India sealed their place in the quarter-finals after defeating Italy 3-0 in the Women's World Cup hockey knockout match here yesterday. Goals from Lalremsiami, Neha Goyal and Vandana helped India ease through to the next round. India will now face Ireland in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
India drew first blood by scoring early in the first quarter. Lalremsiami gave India the lead in the ninth minute. Later, Neha Goyal converted a penalty to double India's lead just before the end of the third quarter. India virtually sealed the match after a deflected goal by Vandana in the fourth quarter. That gave India a comfortable victory.
