Hockey India announced a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh for every member of the Asia Cup-winning Indian hockey team. While this sum may pale in comparison to the crores of rupees that India’s cricketers get, goalkeeper Suraj Karkera insists that the players are grateful to the sport’s administrators.
However, he feels, that the respective states should look to announce cash rewards for their players. “Hockey India have always done well in terms of rewarding us with money. Even this time, they have appreciated our performance at the Asia Cup. Indian hockey is on the rise and to encourage the national players, it will be nice if the various State governments come forward to felicitate their Asia Cup-winning players. It’s always great if your achievements are recognised,” said Karkera.
