New Delhi: Star boxer MC Mary Kom on Thursday denied supporting Congress leader Ajay Maken&rsquo;s candidature in the forthcoming general elections, saying her comments about the former Sports Minister were &ldquo;not political at all&rdquo; and terming the allegations as &ldquo;baseless.&rdquo;

Maken&rsquo;s election campaign comprised radio jingles and video clips of various sportspersons, including Mary Kom narrating the work done by him when he was sports minister.
EC&rsquo;s letter In a letter sent to Mary Kom through chief Manipur&rsquo;s electoral officer, the director general of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Akshay Rout pointed out that when she was engaged as ECI&rsquo;s national icon for promoting voter participation, it was explained to her that she should desist from supporting any candidate or party. ECI DG Rout said that Mary Kom had posted a Youtube video backing Maken, who is contesting from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat. The five-time World Champion pugilist, in her reply however, said that her intention was not at all political.
Appreciating Maken &ldquo;I have no political relationship with Ajay Maken, nor with any of the political parties of India. My intention on the said comment was not at all political, but as a person appreciating him for all his deeds and performance when he was the India&rsquo;s sports minister. It is sad that my comment has been made a political issue,&rdquo; she said.
