Three-year-old colt Murioi (B Sreekanth up), by Dubawi out of Zacheta&rsquo;s Girl, powered his way to a scintillating victory in the grade 1, Deltin Casinos Indian 2000 Guineas, the prime attraction of Sunday&rsquo;s ten-race card at the Mahalaxmi racecourse. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/dec/B-Sreekanth_2.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 566px;" /> B Sreekanth leads Murioi to victory in the Deltin Casinos Indian 2000 Guineas race at the Mahalaxmi racecourse. Pic/Shadab Khan Dr Ramaswamy&rsquo;s equine property trained by S Ganapathy thus became a front-line contender for the Indian Derby to be run on February 2 next year. This was a record 574th Classic success for owner Dr Ramaswamy. Though Murioi went to the post as first favourite, his odds eased out to 26-to-10 in the closing moments as both his main rivals&mdash;Alaindair &amp; Silver Arrow&mdash;came in for inspired support. However, the latter, carrying Dr Vijay Mallya&rsquo;s silks and trained by Pesi Shroff, awkwardly reared up after being stalled and had to withdrawn, leaving only eight of them to fight for the rich purse in excess of Rs 8 million. Silver Streak (B Louis up) set blazing fast pace, clocking the first five furlongs in 58 seconds and change&mdash;and strangely, leading jockey Sandesh astride Alaindair vied with him for the lead, wresting the initiative even before straightening for home. By contrast, B Sreekanth showed a lot of maturity in settling Murioi off the pace in third berth. Sandesh&rsquo;s tactics to cut pace with Silver Streak proved suicidal as Alaindair, though he put up a gallant fight against the winner until the distance post, had nothing left in the tank in the final furlong, as Murioi surged past him and went away for a glorious win.u00a0
