City shuttler Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye, 14, is elated to have played a pivotal role in helping Greater Mumbai women's badminton team upset their more fancied opponents Pune 2-1 to clinch gold at the Maharashtra State Olympic Games in Nagpur on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the men's side had to settle for bronze.
In the women's team final, Naishaa rose to the occasion in the deciding rubber to beat Pune’s Rucha Sawant 21-16, 21-16 to help Mumbai clinch the women's team crown. Earlier, Anagha Karandikar teamed up with Taarini Suri, 15, to beat Sawant and Manali Parulekar in the doubles rubber 21-19, 21-15 and keep their team in the hunt after Saad Dharmadhikar put Pune ahead with a 21-5, 21-7 win over Samiaa Shah.
