Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa outplayed World Champion D Gukesh in the first round of the Sinquefield Cup Chess tournament to finish the opening day in third place. He now shares the lead with USA’s Levon Aronian.

Praggananandhaa surmised his opponent was not at his best after winning in just 36 moves. “I don’t really know what happened today. I think he was a bit off,” said Praggnanandhaa.
