Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka and Frances Tiafoe all progressed on day three of the Rogers Cup in Toronto. World No. 2 Nadal kicked off his campaign with an emphatic 6-2 6-3 win over Benoit Paire. He faces Wawrinka in the third round after he came from behind to battle past Marton Fucsovics.

Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova fired 25 winners past hapless Russian compatriot Daria Kasatkina in a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the rain-hit Montreal WTA event.
