Australian Open organisers defended their heat policy yesterday as Roger Federer downplayed the oven-like conditions, saying players should be fit enough to deal with it. The comments follow suffocating weather with some players struggling to cope as temperatures hit 40 Celsius . "If you want to get to the top, you've got to play in all conditions," Federer said. "We know it can be very hot here. It's definitely a challenge," he added. "It's hard to prepare, but as long as nothing bad happens, it's all good."
