Rory McIlroy labelled himself "brain dead" and "unconscious" after slumping to a first round of 79 in the Open Championship at Muirfield even as India's Shiv Kapur shot into the surprise lead for a short while yesterday.
With the East Lothian links course playing fast and furious under a hot sun, the 31-year-old from New Delhi, who missed the cut in his only previous Open in Hoylake in 2006, birdied the first three holes for a dream start.
