In a thrilling and dramatic encounter, Amanda Anisimova defeated world number one Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to secure her place in the Wimbledon final, marking the biggest achievement of her career so far. The 23-year-old American powered through a fierce contest of power-hitting, overcoming the Belarusian in a tense semi-final played under sweltering conditions on Centre Court.
Anisimova, who had been plagued by injury and mental health struggles in recent years, showed her resilience and determination to end Sabalenka’s bid for a maiden Wimbledon title. The match, lasting two hours and 36 minutes, was a true test of endurance, with both players trading heavy blows from the baseline. Despite the grueling conditions, Anisimova held her nerve to seal the victory, avenging her earlier defeat to Sabalenka in the French Open last month.
"This doesn't feel real right now, honestly. Aryna is such a tough competitor and I was absolutely dying out there. I don't know how I pulled it out," Anisimova said after the win. She will face either Polish eighth seed Iga Swiatek or Swiss world number 35 Belinda Bencic in Saturday’s final.
