India’s Sachin Yadav upstages javelin greats in World C'ship final opening round

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Yadav has quickly emerged as one of India`s most promising javelin throwers. He first drew national attention during the 63rd National Open Athletics Championships in Bengaluru in 2024, where he clinched the gold medal with a throw of 80.04 meters on his senior debut

In a stunning turn of events at the ongoing World Athletics Championships final in Tokyo, India`s rising javelin star Sachin Yadav outshone seasoned competitors including compatriot Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem. The 25-year-old Yadav produced a remarkable throw of 86.27 meters in the opening round on Thursday, placing him in second position at the end of Round 1. This throw not only eclipsed Chopra’s 83.65 meters and Nadeem’s 82.73 meters but also marked a new personal best for Yadav.
