WWE superstar and former WWE champion CM Punk left the WWE back in 2014. Punk made a comeback on Fox and his since been part of the television show WWE Backstage. Rumours have it the CM Punk may make the most high-profile return in years at the Royal Rumble and could be the main focus as if he wins he could be the one to challenge Brock Lesnar ar WrestleMania 36 for the WWE title. Plus, CM Punk has never won the Royal Rumble
The Rated-R superstar Edge announced his retirement almost 9 years ago in 2011. The WWE Hall of Famer has been rumoured to make a comeback to the ring as certain reports have suggested that he is cleared to wrestle again. Edge returning could put him right on top as one of the potential wrestlers to win the Royal Rumble. Edge previously won the Royal Rumble in 2010.
Former WWE Raw women's champion Ronda Rousey has been off the grid ever since her loss to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35 last year in the main event. Ronda's return to WWE is imminent and the Royal Rumble would be the perfect platform for her comeback. Should she win the women's Rumble, it will be a guarantee that she would take on Becky Lynch for the title at WrestleMania 36.
The Undertaker is one of the most high-profile WWE superstars linked to this year's Royal Rumble. Taker won the Royal Rumble in 2007 when he entered at number 30 and went on to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 23.
The 16-time WWE champion John Cena is another possible surprise entrant at Royal Rumble this year. Cena was last seen appearing at WrestleMania 34, but he has not fought in a wrestling match for over a year. Cena won the Royal Rumble in 2008 and 2013, the latter took him to WrestleMania 29 where he won the WWE title after defeating The Rock.
Nikki Bella announced her retirement in March 2019 following a short comeback. Nikki Bella would be an interesting introduction to the Royal Rumble with regards to her connect with WWE Universe. Also, we would definitely love to see a few former WWE female wrestlers make a comeback given that Trish Stratus and Lita are unlikely to do so.
The WWE NXT boss Triple H has not been in wrestling action ever since his victory over Batista at WrestleMania 35. Triple H had made a surprise entry at Royal Rumble 2016 and went on to win the WWE title. It will be interesting to see if 'The King of Kings' makes his return this year.
Former MMA champion Cain Velasquez was last seen losing to Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel in a WWE Universal title match. Cain, who defeated Lesnar in UFC, will be an ideal choice to enter the Rumble and face-off against Brock Lesnar again
Boxing world champion Tyson Fury had his feud with Braun Strowman which ended at WWE Crown Jewel last year. Tyson Fury went on to win the match by countout. It will be interesting to see Fury make an entry at the Rumble as he could dominate quite a few superstars
WWE NXT champion Adam Cole is one of the biggest names in 2019. A main roster call-up for The leader of the Undisputed Era is in the offing and the Royal Rumble could be the right platform to launch Cole to WWE's Raw or SmackDown.
Jeff Hardy is currently battling an injury and substance abuse. Jeff Hardy has been off WWE for a while and it would be interesting and dramatic to see him at Royal Rumble. Possibly he could team up with brother Matt to give the WWE fans a Hardy Boyz reunion.
Former Universal champion Finn Balor made his return in NXT last year in a shocking fashion. Finn Balor has long been a Rumble favourite and it will be a great move to see him at this year's event as he could pursue his long long WWE Universal title which he forcefully had to relinquish in 2016
Former Raw women's champion Nia Jax won her title at WrestleMania 34 and has been off the WWE ring for quite some time now. Nia entered last year's men's Royal Rumble and it took 3 male superstars and finally Rey Mysterio to eliminate her. Nia will be the biggest force to reckon with should she enter this year's Royal Rumble
