When we found out that Nishant Joshi, one of the founders of Vile Parle's ZooBar has exited the brand to start The Burgery at Pali Hill, Bandra, we were compelled to sample the fare. From the vegetarian options, we preferred the Great Indian Dabeli burger. But you must really love the dabeli to shell out R235 for it. In the non-vegetarian burgers, we found the Fish and Chips (R295) a bit oily. But the king was the Stuffed Chicken and Cheese (R295) for its delicious barbecue sauce.
Beti at stake
Reading through the disturbing stories written by 17-year-old Sanya Ranwal in her debut short story collection, Ten Dollar Bride, one gets the overwhelming sense of how hard life could be for some women in our country. Through seven easy reads, Ranwal tries her best to sensitively portray the reality of crushed dreams and patriarchal politics. While Ranwal's writing is still raw, her effort is nonetheless a clarion Call for the need to take the 'beti bachao, beti padhao' campaign seriously.
City matters
If you are in Byculla this month, make sure you drop by Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum for an ongoing solo exhibition by Jagannath Panda. In Crystal Cities, the artist shows recent paintings, sculptures and installations that explore the dislocation and chaos experienced in cities. We specially liked The Dweller of the Metropolis series, with its use of old photographs, toys, papier-mache, and mirrors to comment on middle class struggles.
Fly with the flea
A flea market walk is exactly what the doctor ordered for a boring Saturday. Celebrate at the Flea Fly Flu with the magic of art and culture with 200+ pop-up shops, food stalls, pop-up pubs, live performances and workshops by artists, chefs and musicians from all over the country.

Diwali at Dharavi
This October, Reality Tours and Travel will hold a special tour during Diwali at Dhravai. Feminists unite
The play, Cast Off All Shame, begins with the spirit of medieval bhakti poet Janabai taking over a radio show and playing agony aunt to women, who have issues like slut and body shaming. It is in response to the woes of these women that Janabai speaks about the liberalising Bhakti moment, recounting poetry of women mystic poets such as Karaikal ammaiyar, Soyarabai, Avvaiyar, Akka Mahadevi and Lal Ded.

Watch a courtroom drama come alive on stage

The play, based on Reginald Rose's teleplay, tells the story of an 18-year-old man from a slum who is on trial for the murder of his abusive father.
