Before Ben Affleck utters the words on screen next March, here’s your chance to play Joker or Hero on the superhero’s birthday

This Thursday, Mumbai will turn to Gotham with the launch of a first-of-its-kind Batman Celebration Party. “DC Comics has declared July 23 as Batman’s birthday. Since he is one of the most popular comic book characters in India, we decided we’d get fans together,” says Jatin Verma, founder of Comic Con India, the local comic-based convention.

Guests at the party can look forward to Batman-masked stewards, Gotham inspired décor and a shoppe that sells all things Batman — posters, tees and knick knacks. Proprietor of the party’s venue, He Said She Said, Harsh Samor will play the good guy and offer a flat 10 per cent discount to all guests who come in wearing Batman attire. “For eats, there are Batman’s wings, a twist to chicken wings served in barbeque, desi curry and Chicago-style sauces. There’s also the Poison Ivy salad laden with lettuce and tomatoes that’s a must-try,” he says.
The drinks menu features five specials. The Joker is a vodka, sprite and blue berry breewzer, while Batman is a dark rum version of the Long Island iced tea. “Joker’s smile and Riddler’s riddle are the two shots we’ve created for the night,” says Samor, adding that all shot glasses will wear tiny fabric capes to go with the theme.
Verma admits that Batman has one serious threat. And that’s from The Joker, with several guests preferring to dress like the villain, instead. “‘Why so serious?’ is one of the most popular dialogues from the movie franchise, with fans preferring to dress like Heath Ledger,” he says.
