What was your reaction when you read This Is Us?
Immediately after I read the script, I went to the studio and wrote a six-minute piece. It's about the connectivity between people, and about how we are who we are, because of who came before us. So, I wrote music that reflected that.
Now that the soundtrack has done so well, what's the plan for season 2? Is there going to be a continuity, or a completely different vibe?
Sonically, it's going to be a continuity. There is a quintessential 'This Is Us' sound, and people have allowed it into their homes. So we are going to continue that.
Many of the songs have been called tear-jerkers. What's the challenge in making an emotional song?
I didn't have any challenges because I am genuinely inspired. I also have been given creative license. No one tells me specifically what sound they want. It's like a sandbox where I can play
Life in LA is pretty tough for a musician. What are the key ingredients one needs to succeed in the mad world of international music?
The key is investing in yourself, and never giving up. It's easier said than done. But treat your career like a marathon not a sprint. I have had albums that nobody bought, and then some that did very well. If you don't do what you love to do, you are not going to make it in the long haul. If you love it, then you can deal with things that don't go well.
What's happening with Goldspot?
I have been so busy with TV and films, and haven't got time to write an album. It's in me, I have to seal all the inspiration which is based on my experiences, and then one day, it will just happen.
Any plans of touring India again?
Of course, but in time. I love playing in India and it's my favourite place to perform. It's like coming home and nothing can come close to it.
This is Us airs on Star World & Star World HD every Saturday at 9pm
