A four-day weekend is nothing short of a mini vacation for the working class hero. Once done with the obligatory Diwali visits, fill your days with some of these treats.


Animal Kingdom


Veermata Jijabai Bhonsale Udyan is a 50-acre botanical garden in the heart of the city. The zoo is divided into various sections such as the Zoo Campus, Penguins’ Room, Aquatic birds’ aviary and a botanical garden that is home to over 3,000 trees casting the perfect shade for a picnic. You can also fit in art and culture into the day by checking out the archaeological artefacts and historical photographs at Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum. The 75ft high David Sassoon Clock Tower and some installations make for a great Instagram photo op.

One With Nature

Looking for a fun activity with kids that doesn’t involve a screen? The Maharashtra Nature Park Society is conducting a two-hour walk for children over the age of five, and their parents. Expect to be mesmerised as this city haven boasts of 125 species of birds, 85 species of butterflies and 300 species of plants.

Tent-full of fun

The award-winning Rambo Circus is bringing together artistes from all over the world. They have also added new and fascinating acts such as roller skating, ladder balancing, German wheel, Rolla Bolla, and aerial acrobatic, along with the star performers—the clowns!

Get Adventurous

Take a trip to Sondal, a relatively lesser-known fort located just a few kilometres from Katraj. The medium-intensity hike lends great views of Morbe Dam, Prabalgad, Irshalgad, Rajmachi, Songiri and Karnala Forts, as well as the Matheran mountain range. Once used as a watchtower to oversee the trade route, today it is famous for the Sondai Devi temple.

Regress a bit

Laugh Out Loud

Diwali Pahat is an iconic event that take place during the festive season in Maharashtra. It is traditionally a get-together for performing artistes at a neighbourhood garden. BhaDiPa, a production company that specialises in creating Marathi content, is hosting its version of Diwali Pahat. It will be a musical experience with poems and songs by upcoming artistes, along with standup comedy by Sarang Sathaye, Mandar Bhide and Omkar Rege.

Art about Identity

Art night at TARQ will feature Sarah Naqvi with their first-ever solo show titled How Many Songs From A Single Note, which is inspired by the artist’s battle with identity-based injustice. They are an Indian artist based in Mumbai/Amsterdam, and their work spans video installations, drawings, paintings, sculptures and tapestry. The show also features some poems and essays, which use humour and visuals, while the paintings show intimacy.
