From the moment we have walked into make-up artist Vardan Nayak’s Goregaon apartment, his Instagram notifications have been going off every two minutes. The full throttle pinging is a response to the new feature ‘Ask Me Anything’, where story-watchers can ask questions, which can be answered publicly in a subsequent post. And, what most followers want to know is, how to nail Janhvi Kapoor’s dewy look from her upcoming film Dhadak. “Tried to answer as many as I could. Let’s do this next time,” he signs off.

The 33-year-old has only an hour or two to respond to our questions before heading to Juhu for a movie promotional event with Kapoor, and then fly to Kolkata for another. “It’s delirious, but I love it,” gushes Nayak, whose most recent assignment was Isha Ambani’s ethereal look at brother Akash Ambani and fiancé Shloka Mehta’s recent engagement. “I started my career with Mickey Contractor and assisted him in over 250 projects. He’s my mentor,” says Nayak, who started taking up assignments as a freelance make-up artist in 2012.
