Priyanka Amar, 34 Urban gardening expert
Amar started iKheti in late 2011 to help individuals and communities grow healthy consumable crops within their premises and promote sustainable living. She wanted it to be a one-stop-shop for all urban farmers and gardeners, providing green consultancy, raw materials to set up an urban farm, gardening services and workshops to spread awareness on subjects like home gardening and upcycling. Amar helps her clients set up air-purifying gardens, butterfly gardens, urban farms and composting units. During the pandemic, she helped people convert their homes into mini air-purifying centres, with plants which eliminate common toxins from the air.

If you are in the habit of returning to old favourite books to find new meaning and context, the Recall This Book podcast might just be your thing. Painting six yards of elegance

If you’re a saree hoarder, Neeru Handa’s range will not disappoint you.  Chandigarh-based Handa has mastered the art of using this six-yard cloth as her canvas and paints beautiful floral and abstract designs on it. Besides her interests in fashion and design, Handa is also a certified fitness trainer and nutritionist. “I actually studied to be a trained teacher in schools, but I knew it wasn’t my calling... When I realised how much I loved fashion, I took fashion design courses from home, and that’s how I got into this industry,” Handa shares. Keen to give the saree an enhanced look, she thought of incorporating paints instead of regular stitching. “I personally love floral prints and sarees, so when I started my first project, I decided to combine the two and painted intricate floral designs on a saree,” says Handa. Handa’s sarees are suitable for both daily and formal wear, and strike the perfect balance between simplicity and fashion. She uses pigment dyes, fabric and acrylic paints, and it usually takes her four-seven days to complete an order, depending on the design. Customers can choose the design as well as the material they want it on, such as koradoria or organza silk, chiffon or satin. The sarees are priced At Rs 7000 and above.

Fluid art involves a tool-free and form-free experience

If you are a first-time artist, fluid art may be how you enter this world, which may often feel intimidating. Sakshi Lunkad, a Mumbai-based interior designer and artist, started experimenting with the form which is an abstract style of art that needs no tools, only a canvas of your preferred choice and an array of colours to play with.

You need to pour the colours in a cup and on to the canvas to allow them to flow freely to form an abstract design. Lunkad hosts regular workshops and private sessions and is also expanding her repertoire with newer trends like  resin art, alcohol ink and tie-dye.
