One of the best sadyas in town, home chef Marina Balkrishnan’s Ottupura Onam special, has 27 items, including kaya varatha, sarkkara varatiyatu, kalan, kuttu curry, matanga payar erisherry, olan, avial, cabbage thoran, beans mezhukupuratiyatu, vendakka kichadi, pineapple pullisherry, beetroot pacchadi, vellerika pacchadi, rasam, sambar, ada pradaman, pal payasam and several accompaniments.

With a twist

Chef Amol Janawalekar’s Makhna has an Onam Special of kori gassi, a Mangalorean-style chicken curry made by slow cooking the chicken with a blend of fragrant spices, roasted coconut and milk. The piquant masala adds a unique flavour, which makes the dish delectable.

Unique sadya utsavam

Thangabali in Mahim is known for serving authentic dishes from all five South Indian states. For the weekend, they are hosting an unlimited sadya. Their banana leaf meal will have cherunara achar  (lemon pickle), sarkara varatti (banana chips coated with jaggery), beetroot pachidi, muttai kose thoran (cabbage thoran), avial, olan (ash gourd and peas curry), yam, plantain and curd, tamarind rassam, sambar, and payasam. You can also add chicken, mutton or prawn dishes.
