A holiday villa in Lonavala by the founders of Bandra eatery Out of the Blue is unique for its art-themed interiors and vast sense of space

In 2010, Mumbai-based real estate developer and hospitality player, Bajaj Group, converted their existing property, Hotel Pali Hill into the Le Sutra art hotel. What made this boutique stay in a leafy street of Bandra unique were the contemporary artworks it housed, each floor representing a guna, dynamic and subtle qualities present in every individual. The higher the floor, the more elevated the consciousness.

Their latest collection of dinky hotels, the Le Sutra Great Escapes Villas, is where you run away from the crowds to enjoy the turn of the year in a socially distanced environment. What’s being touted as the “world’s first conceptual art holiday home” is available for short-term rental. Geometrica, the three-bedroom villa, is housed inside a gated community (Rs 37,000 for two nights; accommodates up to 10 people). The entrance features a wall installation of embossed copper. It is a rendition of the sun, moon, and constellations.

The foyer is adorned with a Sahasrara chakra abstraction, crafted out of a punched metal sheet, which when backlit, comes alive. The art, all by homegrown artists, is reflected even in the mundane—the pen holder on the table, and in the flooring. The themed bedrooms have unique headboards; our favourite with a stepwell motif in cement. The outdoor area includes an exclusive private swimming pool, garden with cabana and an outdoor bar area that features a trippy, illusion mirror.

The al-fresco Anglo-Indian Cafe and Bistro on the premises offers European cuisine with a touch of Indianness. The Bruschetta sits alongside the Sun-dried Tomato Sev Puri. The Mustard Barbecue Fish is a must-try. Enjoy your meal while soaking in the view of the magnificent Sahyadris.
