A brand agency has launched a line of ‘shirtees’. We slipped into one for a day and here’s what we thought

#OOTD in the new normal

This writer ordered for a medium-sized black, white and orange argyle patterned shirtee from the spring summer collection

Till about a year ago, our morning routine included getting dressed, putting on kohl and lipstick (now in hibernation) and grabbing our wallet before embarking on our commute to work. Being holed up indoors due to the Covid-19-induced lockdown has made us lose touch with that decade-old practice. Now, the only criterion for our choice of daywear is that it is respectable enough for a sudden Zoom call. It only helps if it can double up for a binge watch session once we are done for the day.

But, recently an announcement by Black White Orange, a brand licensing agency, provided some inspiration to try a ‘work-from-home outfit’. The company forayed into apparel with the ‘shirtee’. “It’s not a shirt… It’s not a t-shirt… It’s a SHIRTEE!” reads the description. Bhavik Vora, founder and CEO, says the patent-pending shirtee is a result of R&D. “Wearing a crisp shirt on a work call feels great, but we realised it does not feel quite ‘at home’. During the lockdown, this very aspect gave us the idea for shirtee.” With over 30 designs for men and women, the shirtee, he says, is something you sleep in, work, lounge, gym in and also do video calls in.

We ordered a medium-sized black, white and orange argyle patterned shirtee from their spring summer collection. It made the cut because of its can’t-go-wrong colour combination that works well with a pair of pants, jeans or shorts and can be worn in both formal and informal setups. The package arrived within 24 hours in a well-designed box. Made of lightweight fabric—a mix of spun poly and pique—the shirtee felt soft and stretchy. We were able to wear it all day without wanting to slip back into our not-so-fashionable loungewear. The fit was neither tight nor loose, making it comfy.

The range is manufactured locally in Mumbai and priced at Rs 1,299 and Rs 1,499 for solids and prints respectively. Overall, the designs lean more towards the formal. That said, the material certainly gets a thumbs up. In fact, we’d love to wear it to work when this bad dream ends.
