Terrific, ‘horror’fic film festival by women

With mid-day as media partner, the Wench Film Festival (WFF) is back with its second edition. Founded by filmmaker, writer and celebrity hair  artiste Sapna Bhavnani, WFF is India’s first film festival to feature films by women, for women, including BIWOC, LGBTQ+ women, and non-binary filmmakers. The festival supports, encourages and celebrates women and non-binary storytellers by providing a platform to showcase their work and professional development opportunities. The idea is to enable women to write and direct stories of their own and challenge the stereotypical portrayal of women. This year, WFF is collaborating with NYX Horror Collective, Final Girls Berlin, and Fatale Collective, and will screen their selection to the audience in India. Part of the jury this year are producer Todd Brown, writer-producer Melody Cooper, director-screenwriter Terrie Samumdra, music composer Mandy Hoffman and Mid-day’s Editor-in-Chief Tinaz Nooshian, among others.

Meet a person with a skill you can use

Rukmini Ray Kadam, 36 Furniture Restorer
>>>
AVAILABLE FOR: Consultations on designing homes, studios and refurbishing old furniture.
CHARGES: Rs 20,000 onwards
Email at: rukmini@trumatter.in

Kadam works as a decor consultant, photographer and blogger, and has been refurbishing furniture since 2010. She curates decor for her clients, along with actively speaking about it on her blog, Trumatter. She also designs ceramic pieces, which are up for sale on her online shop. She takes old wooden furniture and upcycles it with a finish of paint (like chalk finish, milk paint finish and distress) and does upholstery when required.  It starts with discussing the piece and its significance with the client, and how they envision the final product before she suggests the finish and fitting.

RECOMMENDED BY: Heena Gokhale, Associate Director, Publicist says, “Rukmini’s design reflects a deep understanding of her client’s needs and demands. Combining it with her signature touch, she creates a space that is classy yet understated. While colours play a very important role in her work, they never overpower the space.”
