Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Developers: TT Games

TT Games has stepped up with The Skywalker Saga, giving us a game that is filled with all the Lego bits you want and a lot of variety in gameplay. This is good because the game is super long, 40 hours in and I still haven’t finished all the levels. You get to live the entire set of the nine Star Wars movies from a starting point of your choosing. You can begin with The Phantom Menace or start from the original movie A New Hope or jump in with the latest movie with The Force Awakens. It doesn’t matter what trilogy you decide to go with, the game is equally fun and it doesn’t affect the overall outcome.

Skywalker Saga also looks fantastic; there is a level of refinement that I haven’t seen in previous Lego instalments, the developers have taken the time with the backgrounds and objects in the game. Even the exploding brick structures look beautiful. The goofy slapstick humour of Lego shines throughout the game making every iconic scene just a little more special. Storywise, the game follows the movies almost exactly, so if you have watched them, you will know what to expect. Once you finish a few stages though you can unlock free roam on the planet. In this mode, you can do side quests and explore all the beautiful planets in the Star Wars universe.

Skywalker has something for everyone in terms of gameplay. There are the spaceship dog-fights that you expect from Star Wars, pod races through the desert and fun puzzles are included as well. I enjoyed the combat in the game as well. Both using the Lightsaber and the blaster were fun. Even if you don’t like the combat style of the player you can always switch to another on your team. It is also very hard for your character to die in the game. Considering it is a game meant for kids, the health bar generates all the time and the opponents are laughably weak. I am not complaining though, I feel Lego games are more about the story rather than the combat.

However, the biggest issue I have with Lego games at this point is they are formulaic. Even though this game has a lot of new puzzles and fun things to do, it still follows the Lego formula. Sure, it works most of the time but there is nothing that will pleasantly surprise you or have you talking about how the Skywalker is path-breaking. It’s a minor gripe for a game that is close to perfect. That said the game got stuck at the start of loading on the Xbox Series S. I had to hard reset the game and load a save file to get it to play it again. These sorts of issues are to be expected in the first few days when a new game launches. They eventually get fixed with a patch.

The Skywalker Saga is possibly the best Lego game yet. It is a great buy for anyone who loves the silly humour of Lego games combined with the nostalgia of Star Wars. Not to mention this game is safe for kids so it makes it a great gift for young fans of the franchise. There is also a lot to do within the Saga, making it worth the asking price.

Epic Launches Unreal 5 Engine

Epic has launched their much-awaited Unreal Engine 5. The new game engine promises a lot of changes including realistic renders, better performance and many tools for developers. As part of the launch, the company has made available The Matrix Awakens city and Lyra Starter game. However, if you want to test out the capabilities of Unreal you can try out the MetaHuman project where you can build your very own 3D characters directly from a browser. The game engine has already been confirmed for the upcoming new Witcher game.

3D printed fingertip gets tactile senses

Researchers at the University of Bristol have developed a 3D-printed tactile skin that could let robots feel the things they touch. The move could improve dexterity in robots. The skin was created by using a 3D-printed mesh of pin-like papillae on the underside of the compliant skin, which mimic the dermal papillae found between the outer epidermal and inner dermal layers of human tactile skin. The papillae are made on advanced 3D printers that can mix soft and hard materials to create complicated structures like those found in nature.
