Tushar Joshi – Sena Medal and Ministry officials, including Anil Mishra - Advisory Panel Member into CBFC, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Abhishek Mishra - Youngest Entrepreneur, CEO of DPIFF & Advisory Panel Member into CBFC, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, gathered to manually remove over lakhs of trash from the 2.5-km long beach, effectively making it the biggest beach clean-up.

Mumbai:

To mark 75 years of Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav), Team DPIFF has pledged to commemorate 10 CSR Activities before hosting their main event of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2022 on 20th February 2022 in Mumbai. To combat climate change, Team DPIFF supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to reduce carbon emissions through the awareness on renewable energy sources.

The CSR Activity was executed in support with Incredible India, CoinDCX, Josh, Koo, Organic India, Truecaller, Toothsi, Arunachal Pradesh Tourism, Karnataka Tourism, Chhattisgarh Tourism, Gujarat Tourism, Madhya Pradesh Tourism, Rajasthan Tourism, SBI, Planet Marathi, IIFL, Vistara, Forest Essential, Vaarni, LIC

The waste were collected and segregated as wet & dry waste and accordingly handed over to civic officials. After the beach clean up, Team members of DPIFF sailed towards Malad creek with local fishermen in their boats and held nets while pulling out more than 1,000 kilograms of plastic bags and food wrappers. A spark has been ignited with the success of this citizen-civic model of beach clean ups.

A hardcore environmentalist at heart, Afroz Shah has always been an advocate of zero waste and plastic ban to bring about a change in the environment and the rising climate crisis. He added,“This is a campaign that needs to be funded, planned and scaled, the beach segmented and it needs four stakeholders, government, businesses, media and citizens to each play a role. Ultimately, however, government and local administration is responsible for ensuring beaches are clean and rivers are clean and that is not a responsibility they can delegate to citizens who pay taxes to see that beaches are safe and clean”.

Talking about the initiative, Actor Dalip Tahil said: "For me the environment is of utmost priority. With the ongoing climate crisis and change in environmental conditions, it is imperative for all of us to take a stand and work towards its betterment in every possible way."

"A lot of citizens are supporting various initiative dedicated to environment protection. Everyone is realising that we need to make a difference today to have a tomorrow. We have been digging in the sand here since the time we got here because the plastic is all the way inside. If we don't do this today, there will be plastic on the entire planet tomorrow," Abhishek Mishra, CEO of DPIFF said.

Anil Mishra, MD of DPIFF expressed,"This is such a great initiative but at the same time I feel doing this just one day is not enough. It has to go on and this one day is to create awareness about how important it is to keep the planet clean. We have to take responsibility as individuals and citizens and only then the change will happen,"

Like various other places across the globe, Mumbai is battling severe plastic pollution. Therefore, the members of Team DPIFF namely, Vinay Punamiya, Vatsal Joshi, Neha Singh, Yash Jain and Shweta Mishra led a citizen's effort in clearing tonnes of plastic from Versova Beach and other parts of Mumbai & Greater Mumbai.
