Felicitated by more than 11 awards in single year including prestigious ‘Mumbai Ratna Award’ and ‘Iconic Achievers Awars-2021,story of hard work and honesty towards his job, Iqbal Singh Chahal is a worth talked personality. Being on the post as commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Shri Chahal has put in a remarkable effort while working on ground level when Mumbai was dealing with its worst time during COVID. His chore was recognised by one and all while affective planning in order to manage the Covid pandemic. He began with redesigning of  the entire Covid response mechanism in Mumbai which was a tough task as there were multiple limitations. Especially during the second wave when entire country was running out of the medical oxygen, Shri Chahal successfully managed the massive requirement of critical supplies in the mega city of Mumbai thereby becoming a role model across the Country. The ‘Mumbai Model’ is now appreciated by one and all including the Supreme court of India, in the words of the Supreme Court of India’s judge Chandrachud “Bombay Municipal Corporation has done some remarkable work” and also requested that the other state governments draw on the expertise of Shri Chahal in managing the pandemic who planned, delegated and launched the right initiatives, like 24*7 war rooms equipped with Doctors and trained staff. 


For his success to bring fourth a model to fight against the pandemic and save one of the India’s largest cites, he has been awarded ‘Covid Crusader Award-20210’ by Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and also won ‘Lokmat Maharashrian of the Year 2021 Award’ by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.


 Once again Shri Chahal has managed to grab attention by accomplishing Doctor of Science Degree from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology,  Mr.Chahal graduated from same University in 1987 BE Hons Electronics Engineering, moreover he is the first Alumnus ever to receive since Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 1956. TIET is helping intellectuals to fulfil their academic goals and many well known and praiseworthy talents are dedicated to society by this institution, three decades ago similar degree  was awarded to former prime minister of India Dr.Manmohan Singh in the year 1994. 


 

 Dr. Singh dedicated his award to BMC and thanked the members for making this possible with their support. The work execution of Chahal includes the idea of adding thousands of beds through new field hospitals, transformation of over 800 government vehicles into ambulances and alliance of private hospitals to increase the numbers of beds, moreover he had the complicated task of controlling the spread of covid in 55 Slums including Dharavi. Here the situation was worst as there was unsatisfactory pursuance of hygiene among the residents, but here also with strict supervision and continuous sensitization he controlled the deadly spread till remarkable extend. According to Iqbal Singh Chahal his work is the only worship he practises and the awards and recognitions are just subsidiary outcome.
