Oscar Owen, Founder of LearnMagic.com, explains how anyone can become a magician, so long as they have the right training.

Oscar Owen

When it comes to mastering the art of magic, there are not many people who are better equipped to teach it than Oscar Owen; a magic coach with more than 1 million followers on his social media accounts, an international best selling author, and the founder of LearnMagic.com. I recently had the opportunity to speak to him about his business, and he shared some valuable advice for beginners that discusses how anyone can learn magic if they follow three simple steps.

Now Oscar assured me that he doesn’t actually have any special powers, and that magic is something that anyone can learn so long as they are willing to put in the time to practice. In fact, his company LearnMagic.com has successfully transformed over 10,000+ students, into confident and impressive magicians - and many of these students had no prior experience handling cards. Furthermore, his YouTube channel, which now boasts over 100,000,000 views and 800,000 subscribers has also inspired many more thousands to master the art of deception.

So then, how can you learn magic? What steps do you need to take? Here is what Oscar Owen has to say:

Step 1: Learn The Right Tricks

Like with most things, there are both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ magic tricks out there. The good tricks will make people lose their minds in astonishment, whilst the bad ones will elicit nothing more than a small round of applause. Oscar says that, as a beginner, you should start off by learning simple yet powerful self-working magic tricks. This is because you can’t mess them up, they are easy to do, and you can learn them in minutes. Check out his channel (Oscar Owen) where he teaches hundreds of astonishing magic tricks for free that fulfill the aforementioned criteria. He mentioned that the reason why learning self-working magic tricks is a no-brainer for beginners, is because it allows you to spend more time focusing on Step 2: Mastering The Art Of Performance.

Step 2: Mastering The Art Of Performance

Once you know how a trick works, the next thing you need to do is figure out how to perform it. Performance is the one skill that separates an average magician from an astonishing one. Spend time coming up with a story that complements the trick, and then learn that story word for word! Oscar says that this will allow you to know exactly what you need to say and also when to say it; making the overall magic trick far more engaging. Also, when you have a solid story to go alongside your trick, it will help you build confidence too.

Step 3: Building Confidence To Perform

The final part of the puzzle is getting the confidence to perform your magic. Because what is the point of learning a trick, and mastering the presentation if you don’t actually show anyone? Oscar says that the best way to build confidence is to begin with low pressure performances to family and friends. Show them the trick, and if you mess something up then it’s fine! Keep doing it over and over again, until you can consistently perform it to them in a confident manner. With this done, you’ll soon be on your way to performing magic in front of strangers with no worry at all!
