Nature of work
The work of a psytrance artist encompasses diverse, exciting activities that demand unwavering commitment, creativity, and adaptability. Specializing in producing and performing psychedelic trance music, their work can be defined by the following components:
Music Production: They spend a significant amount of time in the studio, meticulously creating original tracks and remixes. Utilizing digital audio workstations (DAWs) and a variety of hardware synthesizers, they expertly shape a unique sonic identity.
Sound Design: Crafting distinct and ethereal soundscapes is essential in the realm of psytrance music. Often, artists design and customize sounds to seamlessly align with the genre's immersive and vibrant aesthetic.
Live Performances: Regular appearances at music festivals, clubs, and parties are indispensable to the psytrance artist's career. Their live performances comprise an amalgamation of skillful mixing and the presentation of original compositions, ensuring a constant and dynamic flow of music that captivates and enthralls audiences. Psytrance festivals, frequently occurring amidst nature in expansive grounds, such as the beaches of Goa and the mountains of Kasol in Himachal Pradesh, serve as the primary venues. However, the genre has witnessed a surge in popularity among the younger generation, resulting in an expanded presence of psytrance events in clubs across various Indian cities. Although these events are not typically festivals, they showcase a select group of artists representing the genre. While major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai have already embraced the genre fervently, its influence is gradually permeating smaller cities as well.
Touring and Travel: Extensive travel becomes an integral part of the psytrance artist's routine, with performances and appearances at events spanning the globe. This demanding aspect of their work entails traversing long distances, navigating different time zones, and adapting to culturally diverse environments.
Networking and Promotion: The establishment and maintenance of connections within the psytrance community are paramount to the artist's success. By cultivating relationships with event organizers, fellow artists, and record labels, they secure bookings and explore collaborative opportunities.
Label and Release Management: Psytrance artists often associate themselves with record labels to release their music. In Aravind's case, his project Pyrokine is currently signed to two labels: Blackout Records in Germany and Multidimensional Music in Mexico. These label partnerships oversee the management of release schedules, artwork design, and promotional campaigns, thereby maximizing the impact of Aravind's music.
Social Media and Online Presence: Sustaining an active online presence through social media platforms, websites, and streaming services assumes pivotal significance in effectively connecting with and engaging their fan base.
Continuous Learning and Evolution: Remaining abreast of the latest trends and technologies in music production and performance is imperative for the psytrance artist.
Overall, the vocation of a psytrance artist amalgamates facets of creative expression, technical proficiency, and an unwavering devotion to the culture of psychedelic music. For Aravind, it has proven to be a profoundly fulfilling career, befitting his unwavering dedication, and resonating with the electrifying energy permeating the psytrance scene.
