Skirts are fun, girly and comfortable. From minis, flares to fitted ones, they convey a woman’s myriad moods on different occasions. Take a cue from Kangana Ranaut on how to ace the corporate look:

1. Length to go
Most women find skirt lengths around the knee the most flattering. For some, this means above the kneecap, whereas for others it’s on or just below the knee. A skirt that is too short is best for a semi-formal affair. Pair a pencil skirt with a jacket and you’re set for a meeting.

2. Complementing the top
A fancy blouse that complements your skirt looks great! A collared blouse either tucked in or falling just below the waistline is one option. Tops should never hang below the hem of the suit jacket or be so short that they show the stomach. If you are wearing a sleeveless or strapless top, invest in a good-quality shrug that you can slip over your shoulders.

3. Accessories and make-up
Match the belt depending on the colour of the skirt and top. If desired, women may wear simple and tasteful jewellery; chunky or bright accessories are not recommended. Makeup should be used minimally for a natural look.

4. Footwear
They don’t necessarily have to match your dress and can be a complementing colour. Semi-tall heels work well with knee-length dresses. Shoes, boots, flats, open-toed and closed-toed shoes look good with skirts. Tall boots are more suited for mini skirts though.

5. Prints
In pencil skirts, like the one sported by Kangana, there are a variety of options to choose from. You can wear a solid black one to work and a printed chiffon one to a casual do. A semi-sheer lace pencil skirt is ideal for parties teamed with a vibrant top. A high-waisted pencil skirt is better for those with a toned body. However, if you’re wide at the bottom, opt for A-line design that doesn’t draw attention to your hips.

6. Comfort dressing
If the skirt is too tight or short, it could spoil your look. If you’re worried about a top and skirt breaking up your long lean frame, use a low contrast colour combination. And remember that these aren’t the only options. There are several creative ways in which you can wear your favourite skirt without feeling uncomfortable.
