Out of the box
I have always loved the outdoors and so I will always choose a good hour of football over an hour in the gym. Though I do weights five days a week, football is a great way to get my cardio done.
It puts your muscles under a different type of stress, which is good and, which running on the treadmill won't achieve. I truly believe that the gruesome gym sessions should supplement a healthy and active lifestyle and not lead it.
Balancing act
Actually I go through phases. Due to the profession I'm in, sometimes I need to lose weight and then the diet is really rigid. But in general, I eat pretty much everything I want.
When I need to get into shape, then I go to the other extreme, which let me tell you, isn't the best thing to do. Following a good balanced diet is the key to a healthy body. Having said that, it's also important to have your 'cheat days' where everything you love finds its way to your tummy.
Calm centre
I'm thinking of practising yoga as most people who practise it really swear by it and believe that it's really changed them. More than physical benefits, everyone raves about the mental benefits and I am all for holistic fitnessu00a0-- more than looking a particular way, your regime should be about feeling good and being healthy. Yoga has that calming effect that can keep you centered in this circus called Mumbai.
Break from stress
And when I find that I'm stressed out, I take a break. Living a regimented life may work in the beginning, but you are most likely to fall off the wagon. It's imperative to not let your regime get monotonous, and this includes your diet.
A break is worth it, because post that, you come back refreshed and ready to take on a new routine with the vengeance! But extremes don't work here either. So a month of junk food and no exercise followed by a month of a strict fitness regime won't work.
