When they say sequels don't work, they should use Bheja Fry 2 as a shining example. In spite of accusations of the original Bheja Fry being lifted from a French movie, the fact is it has raised a few chuckles. Well, all its unworthy sequel raises, is a few yawns and bit of irritation.
Bharat Bhushan is an annoyingly dumb and na ve customs officer. He wins a game show and he is invited to be onboard one of a lavish cruise. Bhushan, who most irritatingly breaks into a song at every given situation, is thrilled, because the girl he has a crush on (Minissha) is also on board and looks like her job is to primarily take care of him.
Abhay Talwar (Kay Kay) is a corporate fraud, who floats companies after companies to hoodwink the income tax department. Talwar is also on the cruise with his wife and mistress to boot, and he wants Bhushan bumped off as he thinks Bhushan is spying on him. It is actually upright custom officer Shekharan (Suresh), who is also Bhushan's chaddi buddy, on Talwar's trail.
What could have been a fun cat and mouse chase on a cruise ends up being a disaster. In the form of entertainment, we are forced to watch Vinay Pathak's close-ups while he makes faces and yes, as if that torture is not enough, you are also subjected to his constant singing.
There is a point in the film when Talwar and Bhushan end up being stranded together on an island. This could also be a great setting for comedy, but the dialogues fall flat. By the time an eccentric photographer (Amole Gupte) enters the scene, one has already given up all hopes of being entertained.
The track, which involves scenes between Bhushan and Shekharan are mildly amusing. Sadly, there is not one crazy scene, which could justify the making of this big budget film, which involved fancy locations.
Vinay hams through the film, Kay Kay is decent, Minissha is decorative. Two actors, who have even made a sincere attempt, are Suresh Menon and Amole Gupte.
Music is mediocre and so is direction. Script and dialogues are below mediocre.
