'Kill Dil' kills box office bill with negative word-of-mouth publicity

Box office: 'Kill Dil' rakes in only Rs 20 crore in its opening weekend

Parineeti Chopra and Ranveer Singh in Kill Dil

Filmmaker Shaad Ali returned to direction after a seven-year hiatus with 'Kill Dil', but it has proved to be a disastrous comeback so far. The film has collected about Rs 20 crore in the opening weekend which is way below the mark for a Yash Raj film.

Exhibitor Rajesh Thadani says, "The film's collections have been low due to the negative word-of-mouth publicity. The business will only continue to sink. This is a huge setback not only for Parineeti Chopra and Ranveer Singh but also Govinda for whom it was sort of a comeback film."

Trade pundits also seemed shocked with the first day collection of a Ranveer Singh-starrer. A trade analyst says, "The film made only Rs 6 crore on the first day, which has never happened with a Ranveer Singh film. His 'Gunday' had grossed Rs 42 crore in the opening weekend while 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram Leela' had made Rs 50 crore.

Another trade analyst, Amod Mehra adds, "Kill Dil has failed to woo the audience and collection over the weekend did not jump. Surprisingly, Yash Raj Films has released the film with limited shows in limited multiplexes. However, Govinda's work has been appreciated."
