Masaba Gupta's Thinking Bride, was a festive line for the bride who 'wore the pants' in a marriage. Her bride models strolled in sehra's and lead the baraat instead of the grooms. The collection saw models walking to Choli Ke Peeche, the raunchy '90s hit from Khalnayak that featured the designer's mom, Neena Gupta. The colour palette remained roughly the same as her Spring Summer line earlier this year, with the similar shades of turquoise, orange and magenta, while the fabrics moved to crushed silks. A smattering of net also used in her SS line, Chalni was on display. Kanni and Moti work, along with patchwork dominated lehengas, shirts, cholis and wide-legged pants.

RENAISSANCE WOMAN Vijay Balhara's bride dared to wear black
Next up Purvi Doshi's Bheed Bhad, which was crowded with fabrics and weaves from across India, and yet the line was a showcase of "clothes that can make you stand out in a crowd." Kota, Leheriya, Ikkat, Gajji and Lucknawi weaves were seen in mini skirts, dresses, three-piece saris, even hooded blouses. Miniature cloth models of dolls, mojris, jootis added fall to the leheriya drapes.u00a0
u00a0Vijay Balhara's label VjB shone, quite literally with his Bridal Renaissance line. His collection involved a heavy use of Mashru silk in chogas, robes and lehengas. Other mainstays included brocade, crepe, silk, net and lace. The colour story revolved on red, green, blue orange purple and black with heavy embellishments in Zardozi, Aari work, coloured stones and sequins.
Magpie in a mixer
Nachiket Barve, Anupamaa: 7 pm
Most things in life come with a rider. Young Mumbai designer Nachiket Barve, who showcased his Spring/Summer 2011 collection on Day 3 of Lakme Fashion Week on Sunday evening, should know that. That India's biggest superstar arrives to watch your show makes it an unforgettable moment. It also makes it impossible for the media to overlook your show, ensuring you bag prime space in newsprint and on prime time television. Now, the rider. When Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya are sitting in the front row, everyone's too busy looking at them, or hoping they will throw a look at them. The clothes are but a distraction from serious celeb ogling.u00a0
This season, Nachiket chose to be part of the crow family, turn into a magpie and collect creative influences from around the world, just like magpies collect knick-knacks to horde in their nests. He lists folk paintings from Ukraine, Marrakesh evenings and star motifs from Morocco as his influences. Must've been one holiday!
The surface texturing, appliqu ufffd and fine beading (made to look like cross-stitch) he is associated with, continued to make an appearance this time too, on mostly easy separates. The colours swung from sunset oranges to varied blues on luscious fabrics. The Origami folding and tie and dye swathes on fragile silk were vaguely reminiscent of Anshu Arora Sen's signature style, maybe even Saviojon's tie-and-dye in silk collection from a few seasons ago.
The mad burst of colour did liven up the evening, yes, but not without taking away from what's his forte ufffd texturing.
Rocker chic Shruti goes desi
Satya Paul: 9 pm
Aerosmith's song came true when actress Shruti Hassan went ethnic as a showstopper for the Satya Paul label. Mid-Day caught up for an exclusive chat even as designer Puneet Nanda, added last-minute touches to the rocker diva.
From rock star chic to sari?
Exciting. Very exciting. It's not exactly my style but that's the beauty of this sari. It's not something that has to be. It's so beautiful that you can't not wear it.
Your personal take on fashion/ style?
It changes from day to day. I'm comfortable in jeans, tees and dresses.
Your favourite designers?
The late Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier.
...u00a0and among Indian designers?
I love all of them. Right now, it's Puneet Nanda.
Are there enough of Indian designers doing your kind of a rockstar chic look?
They are all headed in the right direction. For example, Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi (Mukherjee) are amazing. But rockstar chic as a look is what you wear and what you do with what you have; it's about your attitude. It isn't something that you can buy in a store. Even so, it's not really rocket science. It just has to be black! (laughs)
In terms of fashion in a musician, you like?
Madonna
Is this the time you're walking the ramp in a sari?
(Takes a deep breath) Yep.
How does that feel?
I'll tell you once I'm done (grins)
Three style fundas that never fail you?
Wash your face. Wear a good perfume. Think straight.
Your wardrobe basics?
Lots of black, and good, blue jeans.
HALL OF FAME
ONE TIGHT SLAP? We wonder exactly what were screen hottie Koena
Mitra's intentions at Rajat Tangri's show. Considering she was the
showstopper, we hope it was an affectionate brush of the hand and
nothing else.
I COULD DO THIS FOREVER Showstopper and actress Chitrangada
Singh took the shiny Disco route for Arpan Vohra's collection. She strut
her stuff with ufffdlan in a blingy nude corset prom dress with beige-nude
tights.

Odd reminder since Sunday newspapers reported his domestic help slinked off with his jewellery, only to realise it was fake.u00a0
