Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shares a light moment with actor Aamir Khan, who has been appointed as the face of the state’s Swachhata Abhiyan. Yesterday, the NCP lashed out over the decision and said it was an insult to the ideology of Sant Gadge Baba, after whom the programme was originally named.

Speaking at a Clean India workshop at Sahyadri Guest House last evening, Fadnavis responded, “Why should opposition object... he is a popular actor with social awareness and a good communicator who will ensure the message reaches the last person... Sant Gadge Baba remains an icon of the state.” He added that a Swachh Maharashtra fund would be set up as well.
Also speaking at the event, Khan said, “We must not lose the opportunity to make Maharashtra waste-free; a model state in the entire country... my job is to create awareness about it.”
