After a long time Shreyas Talpade is at home on a long break. The actor is making the most of his free time by meeting friends, family and fussing over his two canine kids -- Don and Knight. "They are as good as babies. They're non-judgemental and only know how to love. I just can't imagine life without them," beams Shreyas. So while Don and Knight play with each other and shower their love on us, Shreyas tells CS more about them:
Who: Shreyas Talpade
What: Talks about his pets, Don and Knight
Where: At his Oshiwara residence
Hello brother
Don (the white Labrador) is the elder of the two. He is 28 months old, while Knight is two years old. I've always had pets when I used to live in a joint family. But Dipti (his wife) wasn't too fond of pets and so we didn't have any. But just before my film Paying Guest was to release, I was extremely strung up. Dipti, being a psychologist, realised that I needed a stress buster. So, she called up my cousin who's a vet and got two-month-old Don home. I was over the moon. But then a few months later, Don contracted hip dysplasia and was too low on energy to do anything post his operation. I was telling a friend about this and the next thing I knew, he gifted me a pup -- Knight. Don was thrilled to see Knight and recovered in no time. He loves to cuddle Knight before going to sleep.
Playful duo
Donald (duck) is my favourite cartoon character and that's how Don got his name. As for Knight, he is Don's saviour and protector. You take them down for their walks and everyday you're sure to get a complaint about Knight. If some other dog barks at Don, Knight will just leap at him. Don is our Jonty Rhodes, while Knight is Bagha of Lagaan (laughs). Don understands your commands and will do as he's told. As for Knight, Don is his master. He'll follow him to the end of the world. But the two have different tastes when it comes to food. Don is very choosy and likes to eat boiled rice and roti with milk. Both of them just love bread, butter and multigrain biscuits. If Don smells alcohol anywhere close, he'll run away. Whereas, Knight will lick an entire bowl of beer empty!
Not without them
When I read stories about abandoned pets being found on the streets, I really can't understand how anyone can act like that. Don and Knight are our kids. We just can't imagine life without them. In fact, when we were redoing our home, we did thorough research on which flooring would be conducive for them to walk on; the kind of d ufffdcor that wouldn't hinder their movement. I even bought an Audi Q7 because of its big dicky when I wanted to buy either a BMW or an SUV. But their comfort comes first. I'm planning to drive down to Goa. Hopefully, we can make the trip without a hitch.
