Acting was never on the radar of Raashi Khanna, who is making her big screen debut as John Abraham's wife in Shoojit Sircar directed "Madras Cafe"

A self-confessed geek, the 22-year-old said she gave the audition without hoping much but the offer came as happy surprise. "I was a geek in the school. I was very much into academics and a topper.u00a0

After completing my studies, I got into advertising. I was also into modelling and gave the audition without thinking much. But I was surprised to get a call from Shoojit sir.

Acting was not on my radar ever but after shooting my first film, I have realised that this is my calling," Raashi told PTI in an interview. It was not an easy call for the Delhi-based girl to have a career in showbiz because her father wanted her to be an IAS officer.

"It was a surprise for my family when I told them that I was offered 'Madras Cafe'. My family was initially worried because I have got no film background. My father is a businessman and my mother was a principal but they are very supportive about my career choice," she said.

The actress is happy that she is making her debut with a content-driven film rather than starring in a rom-com as the film gave her enough space to perform. "It is great that I have started my career with a strong-content film.

My role was very challenging as Shoojit sir's characters are very well etched out and defined. I have got enough space to perform as compared to any other commercial film.

My character demands lot of emotions as I am playing the wife of a RAW agent," she said. "Madras Cafe", also starring "Rockstar" actress Nargis Fakhri in a prominent role, will hit theatres on August 23.

Raashi is eagerly waiting for the release of her debut film as it will decide her future in the industry. "Post the release of the film, I will be able to understand what industry thinks of me. Then only I can decide on my career and other projects. But I will try to bring variety in my roles," she said.u00a0
