RIP, Feroz

Although his dad Feroz Khan's last rites were done in Bangalore according to his wishes, son Fardeen Khan is having a prayer service here in Mumbai.

He left behind memories of our togetherness, his struggles, his work, his thoughts, his perspectives, and most importantly a never-say-die spirit.

To offer prayers so that that his soul may rest in peace and to bid him a final farewell, your presence is solicited at the Ballroom at the JW Marriott hotel on Monday May 4 between 5 to 7.30 pm.

The Movies I Loved Growing Up

Sajid Khan

The director names his favourite flicks

The Empire Strikes Back

I was eight years old and it was the first 70 mm film that I saw in Sterling theatre. Like the impact any Star Wars movie by Steven Spielberg had over the rest of the world this film too made an impact on me u2014 Darth Vader revealed to be Luke Skywalker's father. Till today, that remains the biggest movie twist of all.

The Abyss: James Cameron's flick is one of those films that you can't categorise under any slot it's not just drama, action, romance, science fiction or a high tech adventure film but a mix of all. About the love story of couple on the brink of divorce but how under extraordinary conditions they get back together; The Abyss changed my life forever. It's my No 1 film of all time.

Himmatwala: K Raghavendra Rao's film was popcorn rubbish cinema at its best with zero per cent respect even attached for a viewer but it started a trend of movies which would redefine Indian cinema for years to come. Called Madras potboilers, the films had a squad of Jeetendra, Sridevi, Shakti Kapoor, and Asrani and introduced the world to trash cinema which was still very successful box office-wise and hugely entertaining. I have watched Himmatwala 50 times and not got bored.

Dharamveer: To me, this was Manmohan Desai's all-time best. The film had outlandish knights, ninjas, samurais, pirates gladiators, gypsies, arenas and Indian rajas and ranis but it was sheer entertainment. Dharam as a gladiator was the only hero who could pull off that skirt because he looked so good.

Ardh Satya: Govind Nihalani's real cinema was truly real. Later, I realised it was like the film Serpico about a cop caught in his own web of deceit and how he tries to fight corruption in the system. Om Puri stood out as the honest cop.

Catty Kat

We don't know what Katrina Kaif has against young Sonam Kapoor especially her boyfriend Salman Khan is very close to Sonam's dad Anil Kapoor. A bitchy actress called us to say, "Katrina has been spreading stories that she has replaced Sonam in Dibakar Bannerji's next but that's far from the truth.

Though Sonam and Dibakar are very keen to work with each other and Dibakar and Anil have met up to discuss a film, it was never the same one that was offered to Katrina. Nobody but Kat can play that role as it's that of a 'white' girl. The talks for that is definitely on."

Dibakar's assistant editor Priyan also called us up to clarify the same thing, "Katrina was the only actress offered to play the role in Dibakar's next (with Imran and Abhay Deol). Dibakar and Sonam are very keen to work with each other and he's in talks with Anil for another project so the question of Kat replacing Sonam never arose."

Tut! Tut! Such games do not befit a senior actress like you Kat against an actress (Sonam) who's just starting out? Meeow! Kat did the same thing when there were rumours about Aish doing the Barbie doll in India doing the rounds. Always want to show that you are No 1, eh Kat?

Shabbo piles it on

Sometimes people get their units of measurement mixed up! Shabana Azmi's piling on 25 kgs for Studio 18's Gurinder Chadha-directed "It's A Wonderful Afterlife" may have generated an equivalent amount of newsprint and airtime.

But according to our well-placed sources on the sets, while Shabbo is truly looking the part of a plump hysterical Punjabi mommy, it's 25 pounds and not 25 kgs that she's put on! We aren't the best at math but reckon that translates to about 11kg! Sounds more believable, doesn't it?

She made up her mind, and her face!

Amrita's Rao was one of the first persons to cast her vote. She lookedu00a0 like she'd dipped her face in make-up before leaving the house.

The girl was at the booth at 8, and we bet she got up at six to get her hair and face done. Don't even get us started on the brilliant bytes she gave to the channels: "Aap vote nahin de rahe hain, toh sachmuch so rahe hain," she said. Snore......
