KATRINA KAIF
The Movies I Loved Growing Up
The New York actress lists her pick of flicks...

The Sound Of Music: Our mom never allowed us to watch current cinema. She thought that cinema wouldn't teach us morals and values so we would watch all the old film classics.

As a result, when I grew up, my idea of romance and my perception of life was idealistic daydreaming larger-than-life, flowery, fancy, where the men were intense, slightly unachievable.

Sound Of Music was special. It had The Man, played by Christopher Plummer, trying to take care of his six kids. I grew up with my mindset on the strong, silent type of guy.

Gone With The Wind: The amazing chemistry and the unhealthy love between Rhett Butler and Scarlett O' Hara was superb! She was a spoilt, self-obsessed, stubborn girl who later realised how much her lover meant to her only when he went away. Her height of selfishness and unwavering stubbornness stuck with me for a long time.

Casablanca: This was pining for the unattainable a silent, wistful love brought out beautifully between the lead pair, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, heightened by boiling emotions beneath the surface.

I love slightly understated films like these intense emotions boiling beneath the surface and selfless sacrifice in the end.

Ben-Hur: Charlton Heston as Judah Ben-Hur, became the ultimate hero and a hero in shining armour for me.

Of course, the miracle angle was also there, especially where his mom and sister get healed, and I think mom wanted to instill these values in us but more than everything else, whenever I would see Charlton Heston stride across the screen my heart would go bumpity-bump!

Man Of La Mancha: I love this film because of the simplicity in the hero, Miguel De Cervantes and the way he lives romance in his head.

He loves Aldonza even though she's cheap in the eyes of other men. In his eyes, she's a princess. Aldonza's character, played by Sophia Loren is unforgettable.

This film showed me two big things having the courage to dream and that love can be truly blind without being lust. Every human has a good side.

Imran: Link Lover

Imran Khan is luurving the Bandra-Worli sealink. Any trip to the city and the actor makes it a point to buzz down the newly-opened bridge.

Apparently, the actor was keen to go for a spin as soon as it had opened, but initial traffic snarls made him postpone the trip. Now he makes it a point to use it as often as he can.

New-Look Danny

Danny Denzongpa is back in a completely new avtaar. The actor, who had disappeared from the Bollywood circuit, will be seen in the role of a gangster in Soham Shah's Luck.

A source from the unit reveals, "Soham created a special look for his character.

Clad in jeans and kurta, accessorised with gold chains and sporting gelled hair, Danny was initially apprehensive about this new look suggested by Soham.

He even suggested a few changes here and there. But the director stuck to his guns and assured Danny that the styling would suit his character just perfectly."
