Family time
It was a family holiday for us. As it was summer in Italy, the weather was quite pleasant without being too chilly. In our ten-day tour, we visited Rome, the Vatican City, Milan and Venice. And the food was a gastronomer's delight. My wife, kids and I gorged on pastas, pizzas, spaghetti and of course, gelato. The pizzas in Italy are so fresh, light and delicious.u00a0u00a0
Memorable stuff
We went to the Vatican City on Wednesday. It was the day when the Pope comes out of the Sistine Chapel to address the people. Italians are devout and the multitude of people out there was a sight to behold. The highlight has to be the Colosseum at Rome. It is a grand majestic structure that left us wonderstruck. It reflects the changes in civilisation from the time when people took sadistic pleasure in the show of death to more civil forms of entertainment.u00a0
Rich heritage
While we knew about Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper painting in Milan, we couldn't get tickets to visit that gallery. However, the churches in the Vatican City have lovely paintings by masters like Da Vinci and Michelangelo on their walls as well as on glass panes. We also visited Julius Caesar's grave in Rome. Statues, paintings, sculptures dot every church in Rome. One thing we noticed is that Romans are very fashion-conscious. You won't find a badly dressed person anywhere.
