Less is more this season. Here's what you need to know about the unisex garment that's your safest bet to beat the heat this summer. It's also a great way to flaunt your sexy legs
Looking for hassle-free, yet stylish summer wear? “Shorts are ideal for this season,” says designer Parvesh Kumar, who advises teeming the garment with a white cotton shirt and minimal accessories.

To create a fun daytime look, Parvesh suggests high-waisted shorts, which can be worn with a blouse and pumps. “Or pair them with chunky wedges for evening glamour,” says Parvesh.
From classic denim cut-offs to funky hot pants, the unisex piece of clothing has undergone several modifications, but still remains a classic. Pleated shorts, cuffed (rolled-up) shorts, rompers (a variation on the jumpsuit), high-waisted shorts, as well as shorts with lace trimmings are in, this season.
Light fabrics are best used to make these lowers comfortable to wear. “Shorts work best in lightweight or airy fabrics, as they provide comfort and ease of movement,” says designer Swapnil Shinde, who suggests choosing from cotton, denim and poplin fabrics.
Designer Payal Jain votes for cotton or linen shorts as personal favourites. “I love the crushed and crumpled look of linen shorts, as they are meant to look relaxed, simple and loungy,” she says.
As far as colours are concerned, experimentation is key, so aside from whites, beiges, and pastels, bright prints are making waves as well. “While pastels like white, mint-green and beige are favourites, neon shorts, including bright pink, fuchsia and electric blue are a rage this season,” shares Payal.
And for those reluctant to dress up for a formal occasion, here’s some good news: Shorts can now be worn for formal occasions as well as a night on the town.
“Wearing shorts made of formal fabrics, especially in menswear makes the look evening ready, one can also pair sequined shorts with formal shirts in pastels to complete the look,” recommends Swapnil.
Accessorising is a great way to dress up a pair of shorts says Payal, adding, “Silk shorts or a jumpsuit make for a great semi-formal look.”u00a0
