People moving to Mumbai to chase their dreams are nothing new. However, what sets them apart from each other is the number of stories they end up carrying around. This film is one such story where a couple from Jammu & Kashmir is trying to live their dream but are somehow not able to. Just like this film.
Directed by debutante Sanjay Amar, the plot focuses on the seven days Ajay (Aamir Bashir) is allotted to come up with a script for a wannabe producer. But thanks to his petulant wife (Sonal Sehgal) who recklessly believes in stardom, he keeps wasting time and facing unnecessary troubles. And while he’s at it, several weird yet interesting characters enter the picture providing some twists and turns to the flow. At the end of the day, he’s just another struggling writer in this big badass city.
Though the narrative seems strong on drama, the few high points happen solely due to situational comedy. Well, that’s bound to happen with veterans like Asrani and Satish Kaushik on board. One can empathise with Bashir’s frustrated but humane act whereas Sehgal provides the spunk with her foolish yet adorable persona. Vipin Sharma makes the cut with his intimidating Haryanvi accent. The supporting cast is doing just that: supporting the film.
Its mediocre screenplay does the damage because of its aversion to take risk. With a freewheeling tale like this, things could have been more happening. Even the dialogues are tepid and don’t challenge the stereotype associated with low-budget films. The camerawork is visibly rudimentary but the settings, quite real. Background score and songs — except the title track — are not worth mentioning.
